San Diego, a large city in southern California adjacent to the U.S.-Mexico border known for its deep harbor, mild year-round climate, and vibrant beach communities, is an official Subway Builder map. The in-game map includes commuter data for all of urban San Diego County, stretching to Oceanside and Pala Mesa in the north, the foothill communities of Alpine and Ramona in the east, and the international border to the south.
Strategy
Three areas with large numbers of worker pops that will fuel a majority of riders and profits in the early game are:
1) Downtown San Diego
Downtown San Diego can be roughly delinated as the square just southeast of Balboa Park (the large park in the center of San Diego), containing a large number of worker pops. Travel demands for pops working in Downtown SD lie roughly to the east and southeast of downtown.
2) San Diego International Airport
San Diego International Airport is located just east of Downtown SD, with a lot of pops travelling from the downtown to work at the airport.
3) SDSU
SDSU is located northwest of Downtown SD and can be distinguished by the large number of worker pops present. The majority of these worker pops reside mainly to the south and west of SDSU along El Cajon Blvd.
Other locations with sizable worker pops include: Kearney Mesa (located just north of Montgomery Airport), UCSD and Sorrento Valley, Southwestern College, and Mission Valley (following the San Diego River).
Research
As a city renowned for tourism, San Diego boasts dozens of leisure and third-places that future Subway Builder updates may incorporate, including the following sites.
- Balboa Park, an urban greenspace that contains the San Diego Zoo and dozens of museums, gardens, and theatres;
- Petco Park, a 40,000-seat stadium that hosts Major League Baseball's Padres and several concerts;
- SeaWorld, a large aquarium and amusement park that boasts several marine mammal exhibits and rollercoasters;
- Snapdragon Stadium, a 35,000-seat stadium that hosts college football games, soccer matches, and several concerts.
The city also shares three ports of entry with Tijuana across the U.S.-Mexico border, including one of the busiest border crossings in the world at San Ysidro. A few miles inland, the Cross Border Xpress terminal allows passengers at Tijuana Airport to enter the U.S. directly without the need to travel to busier crossings. Travel between San Diego and the border is a significant driver for the city's transit ridership in reality, and Subway Builder networks would benefit with reliable data found and implemented.
